Gulf Coast Classic

Want to learn about livestock projects BEFORE buying an animal? Already have an animal but want to get some practice in the show ring BEFORE going to county fair? Not showing animals but want to go to an educational workshop? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then join us August 5 at the Gulf Coast Classic!

Texas 4-H Veterinary Science Camp – West Texas A&M

Exciting news! There will be a second Texas 4-H Veterinary Science Youth Camp this summer! The camp will be held in Canyon, Texas at West Texas A&M on July 31-August 2, 2017.

The goal of the Texas 4-H Veterinary Science Camp is to provide experiential learning opportunities for students participating in the Veterinary Science Certification Program (VSCP). Students will learn and practice clinical skills on large and small animals, while under the supervision of a veterinarian. Students may earn 33 of the 78 clinical skill hours required for the VSCP certification process.

  • Cost: $150.00 (includes room, meals, materials, and more).
  • Limited space available. (Preference will be given to students participating in an organized 4-H veterinary science program.)
  • Sign up through 4-H CONNECT under 2017 Texas 4-H Roundup. (Sign up dates: July 17 – July 24, 2017 sign up will open at 8:00 am).
  • Open to 4-H members 11−18 years old who has NOT attend a Vet Science camp.
  • Drop off participants on Monday, July 31 and pick them up on Wednesday, August 2 after the skill-a-thon.
  • Chaperones and transportation provided for all participants.

The Seguin Swine Breeders are proud to present to you a group of widely respected pork producers and swine industry professionals as speakers at their 2017 Show Pig Short Course. If a swine project is in your future, this clinic will cover all the various aspects of selecting, feeding, and showing a pig. The clinic is held on August 19, 2017 at the Guadalupe County Extension Office in Seguin and the registration deadline is August 16, 2017. 2017 Train Like a Champion Cattle, Sheep and Goat Clinic and Prospect Show

Livestock project families are invited to participate in the 2017 Train Like A Champion Event held on Saturday, July 29th in Bellville, TX. It will feature species clinics for Beef Cattle, Sheep and Goats along with excellent door prizes to be handed out. There will also be a showmanship workout where showmen will get one-on-one instruction time with clinicians and livestock ambassadors. After the showmanship workout, there will be a Jackpot Showmanship Show, and capping the event with off a Prospect Show. The Heifer show will even feature a separate Commercial Heifer division for non-registered females. The Train Like A Champion event is designed for novice showmen to get out and gain valuable in-ring experience, improve their showmanship skills and ask questions to help provide a positive experience with their livestock projects. Families with livestock that need to get out and make a trip or two to town before their target show will also benefit from participating in the 2017 TLC event.
