4-H Wildlife Habitat Education Project (WHEP) State Contest

The 4-H Wildlife Habitat Education Project (WHEP) State Contest will be held on April 28-29, 2018 at Camp Tyler in Smith County (District 5).  Registration will open March 1st on 4-H Connect and the fee is $25 per individual youth contestant. 2018 MCFLA Livestock Judging Contest

The Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Association proudly announces their 2018 Livestock Judging Contest to be held on March 2, 2018 at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds. The entry fee is $10 per person and registration is from 7:30-8:30 am with the contest beginning at 9:00 am. For more information call 979-245-4100.

Fayette County 4-H Whiz Bang

The Fayette County 4-H Whiz Bang will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Fayette County Gun Club in La Grange, Texas. Registration is on iclays.com and is limited to the first 75 shooters. 2018 State 4-H Indoor Archery Contest

Entry into the Texas State 4-H Indoor Archery Contest is now open on 4-H Connect.  There are 4 different venues and 3 different weekends in which this match will take place.

2018 Texas 4-H Equine Ambassador Application

The application for the 2018 Texas 4-H Equine Ambassador Short Course has been released. Since 2012, horse enthusiasts from across our great state have traveled to Gainesville for an exceptional training. Equine Ambassadors have been busy assisting his/her County Extension Agents with equine programming and advocating for the industry. These exceptional leaders have represented Texas 4-H, the equine industry and animal agriculture with distinction and purpose. Equine Ambassadors have been at the forefront of advocacy efforts at the local, state, national and international levels.

Continuing in 2018:

The course will still be headquartered in Gainesville, however a portion of the training will be held in Oklahoma City in conjunction with the NRHA Derby. Selected applicants will be treated to a behind the scenes educational experience of this storied event. Due to the difficulty in selecting applicants based on written information, 2018 applicants will submit a 2 minute video introduction and justification video along with their application.

2018 Texas 4-H Equine Ambassador Short Course:

Location: Gainesville, Texas

Dates: June 24 – June 27, 2018

Cost: $250

Selection Criteria:

  • Senior age (14-18) 4-H youth that have exhibited a superior level of ambition regarding his/her horse projects
  • Students with a profound interest in equine science and the horse industry in Texas
  • Students who have shown advanced leadership qualities and a willingness to help others
  • Top 25% class rank

Application Process:

  • Applicant goes to http://tamuag.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_esuzimQvlFSJcVf
    • Student will complete the application and enter the contact information of supervising County Extension Agent
    • CEA will be automatically emailed a recommendation survey
  • Applications are due April 15, 2018. Applicants will be notified by early June, 2018 regarding the application result

Texas Horse Help Mobile App LIVE!

The new Texas Horse Help Mobile App is now LIVE on the app store and google play!  This app was developed to be a FREE resource for the Texas horse community and we hope you will help us spread the word!  Within the app users can search for equine professionals, and events such as horse shows, clinics and 4-H contests.  The app also helps direct users to their county extension program, contains educational resources and links to 4-H materials.  We welcome any new event or business profiles within the app, this includes any 4-H events or county programs!  Information can be submitted by selecting the menu icon in the app or through the web submission forms here: https://animalscience.tamu.edu/texas-horse-help-app/.   Click here to learn more about the app features and get links to download: https://spark.adobe.com/page/vEWBx0FVK9Nsz/

District 11 Multi-District Judging Contests

The District Judging Contests will be on the following dates at the locations listed below:

Important Reminders:

  • District Dairy, Wool & Horse Judging participants must submit names by February 1, 2018 to the District Office. There will be no additional registration fee.
  • All other contests (Livestock, Meats, and Soil) must register via 4-H CONNECT by March 30, 2018.
  • Wool, mohair, range evaluation & Grass ID need to notify the District 4-H Specialist of participation by March 30, 2018.
  • An entry fee of $10.00 per INDIVIDUAL will be charged for Livestock, Meats and Soil Judging Contests.
  • Teams will NOT be designated on 4-H Connect. All participants will sign up as individuals for their particular contest. Team designations will be made at registration on the day of the contest.

District 11 Shooting Sports Training – Deadline to Register is February 2, 2018

Register no later than February 2, 2018 to avoid the late fee!

The District 11 4-H Youth Development program is pleased to announce that we will be offering a shooting sports training for RIFLE, SHOTGUN & ARCHERY on February 24-25, 2018 in Victoria TX.

Registration will be January 2, 2018 through February 2, 2018 for $120.  Late registration will be available from February 3, 2018 to February 16, 2018 for an additional $25.  All County Extension Agents are able to register for free.  Registration is open on 4-H Connect now.  ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST  HAVE AN ACTIVE PROFILE ON 4-H CONNECT TO REGISTER.

College Prep 101 Workshop Sponsored by PVCEP & Texas A&M AgriLife 4-H Program

Prairie View Cooperative Extension Program and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension are excited to announce a joint programming effort focused for youth and parents wanting to learn more about preparing for college.  This first workshop will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 on the campus of Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX.  The workshop will focus on the basics of planning for college including admission tests, academic requirements, major/degree selection, and financial aid.  The workshop is focused for youth in the 8th grade and older.
