District IV 4-H Shooting Sports Coaches Training

District 4 is in the process of planning a 4-H Shooting Sports Coaches Training for Saturday, February 16th and Sunday, February 17th in Texarkana, Texas (Bowie County). Details on the training will be released very soon. Registration will take place on 4-H Connect, so potential participants will need to complete their 4-H volunteer membership prior to registering.

MasterChef Junior

MasterChef Junior, the national FOX hit cooking competition series where children aged 8 to 13 years old compete for the coveted title of MasterChef Junior!

Pre-registration on the Master Chef Junior Website is highly encouraged masterchefjuniorcasting.com! This allows a producer to call a week prior to remind about the casting call as well as answer any questions they may have.

Capital Farm Credit Scholarship Opportunities

Youth Scholarships

Capital Farm Credit is committed to serving youth in agriculture by providing over $100,000 in scholarships to Texas high school seniors. Each branch office awards at least one $1,000 scholarship to graduating seniors who are seeking an agriculture-related degree.

Contact the Capital Farm Credit office closest to you to request an application. All applications must be submitted to the student’s local branch office.

Video Contest

Each year, to celebrate Ag Day, Capital Farm Credit holds a contest for high school aged 4-H and FFA in Texas.  Students create a 30 second video to tell us “What Agriculture Means to Me” and uploads the video link to enter.  Winners are determined by online voting.  The video that receives the most online votes wins that high school student a scholarship, and their 4-H or FFA Chapter will also receive a donation.

    • First Place Student: $2,500 & their chapter receives $1,500
    • Second Place Student: $1,500 & their chapter receives $1,000
    • Third Place Student: $1,000 & their chapter receives $500
    • Corporate Selection: $1,000 & their chapter receives $500

Students can begin creating their video at any time, but they will not be able to upload or start receiving votes until February 4, 2019. (Upload all videos here) The contest ends March 19, 2019.

2018 District 11 Spring Spectacular

District 11 4-H is pleased to announce our 2019 Spring Spectacular! Contests included are Fashion Show, Fashion Storyboard, Duds to Dazzle, Educational Presentations, Public Speaking, Share-the Fun, Quiz Bowls (Beef, Horse & Nutrition), Consumer Decision Making, Leaders 4 Life Skill-A-Thon, and Food Show & Food Challenge. This event will be held on April 12-13, 2019 at the Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex in Victoria, Texas. Details and entry forms can be found on the event website: https://d114-h.tamu.edu/district-11-4-h-spring-spectacular/. Please contact your County Extension Office for information regarding their county level qualifying contests.

The cost to register includes a one time contest management fee of $15 per individual (includes a souvenir) and a $5 registration fee per contest. Registration opens on February 15, 2019 and must be completed on 4-H Connect. Deadline to register is March 15, 2019 with late registration being March 16-29 for an additional $25. T-shirts will be for sale for $15.

Leadership Opportunity – Rodeo Austin

Youth are needed to sing the National Anthem and recite pledges at Rodeo Austin before the Junior Shows as well as the Longhorn and Open/Youth Boer Goat Shows. Below is the information that is also included on the SignUpGenius link.

National Anthem – Youth will need to submit a video as those spots will be assigned. Email videos to Cory at cory.hundl@ag.tamu.edu by  February 3rd.

Listed below are opportunities for youth to volunteer to sing the national anthem and recite the American, Texas Pledges, the FFA motto and the 4-H Pledge at the shows for Rodeo Austin.

  • Longhorn Show – Saturday, March 16th  – Show starts at 9:00 am
  • Market Lamb & Goat Show – Tuesday, March 19th   – Show starts at 9:00 am
  • Market Poultry Show – Wednesday, March 20th  -Show starts at 11:00 am
  • Open Boer Goat Show – Thursday, March 21st  – Show starts at 9:00 am
  • Barrow Show – Saturday, March 23rd – Show starts at 9:00 am
  • Barrow Show – Sunday, March 24th – Show starts at 9:00 am
  • Market Steer Show – Tuesday, March 26th – Show starts at 9:00 am
  • Market Steer Show – Wednesday, March 27th – Show starts at 9:00 am
  • Jr. Breeding Heifer Show – Friday, March 29th – Show starts at 9:00 am
  • Jr. Breeding Heifer Show – Saturday, March 30th  – Show starts at 9:00 am

For those interested in this leadership opportunity, please sign up using this online form. You will need to plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the species show in which you are volunteering. One parking and one gate pass will be provided for the youth who is volunteering (provided you do not already have any) and the passes will be mailed to the address provided. You WILL NEED to provide your address when signing up.

When you register, please select the option to use alternate name and in the “First Name” box , list the first and last name of the youth member. In the “last name” box, list the 4-H County or  FFA Chapter in which the youth is a member.

If you would like to sing the national anthem, a video needs to be emailed to Cory by February 25th as those spots will be assigned.

47th Annual Summer Horsemanship School Program

Registration for the 47th Annual Summer Horsemanship School is now open. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Summer Horsemanship School Program provides youth and adults a great opportunity to gain a solid foundation and advance horsemanship skills in a fun learning environment. Any group in Texas can host a 2 or 3-day horsemanship school (clinic) including 4-H clubs.
