San Patricio County A&H Show Livestock Judging Contest

The San Patricio County A&H Show Livestock Judging Contest will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the San Patricio County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena in Sinton, TX. Check-in is from 8:00 – 8:45 am and the contest starts at 9:00 am. Registration is $25 for teams and $10 for individual. Online registration is through January 22 at www.judgingcard.com. All mail in entries must be postmarked by January 19 to avoid the late fee of $10 per team and $5 per individual. 4-H & 4-H/FFA Exhibitor Cards – Order Online NOW

A new supply & a NEW item is now in stock!  Exhibitor Cards (2 options…4-H only or 4-H/FFA cobranded) for 4-H members, FFA Members, and County Fairs are on sale now.  Orders must be placed by a county Extension agent, Ag Science Teacher, or County Fair official.  Orders will be shipped directly to the County Agent or Ag Science Teacher.  Please allow at least 21 days for delivery, or you may select “Expedited Shipping” if you need it sooner.  Order while supplies last…supplies are IN STOCK!  The card is an 11×14 on glossy heavyweight card stock and is in full color.  (See flyer).

2018 District 11 Photography Contest

The District 11 4-H program is pleased to announce the D11 Photography Contest. This contest is open to Junior and Intermediate 4-H members only. Senior 4-H members will go directly to the state contest.

Registration is February 1 – March 2, 2018 for a fee of $10 per participant. Late registration is from March 3-9, 2018 for a fee of $35 (additional $25).

Photography contest judging will take place March 12-16, 2018. Placing photography entries will be electronically displayed at the District 11 Spring Spectacular event on Saturday, April 7th in Victoria.

All contest information is posted on the District 11 website.

TAMU Range Judging Clinic

The Texas A&M University Range Judging Clinic will be held on Saturday, March 24th from 8 am to noon. 4-H members, 4-H leaders, County Extension Agents and parents are invited to participate in this 4 hour training on plant identification and the 4-H Range Evaluation Contest.

Participants can register at  Judging Card at https://www.judgingcard.com/.

Dr. Bob Knight and Dr. Barron Rector will conduct a 2 hour training on plant identification from 8-9:30 am, then will split the participants into 4-H and FFA. Dr. Knight teaches the FFA Range Judging Contest while Dr. Rector teaches the 4-H Range Evaluation Contest. Participants learn through introductory lectures and hands-on participating in practice contests, both plant id and range evaluation.

Capital Farm Credit “What Agriculture Means to Me” Video Contest

Each year, to celebrate Ag Day, Capital Farm Credit holds a contest for high school aged 4-H and FFA in Texas.  Students create a 30 second video to tell us “What Agriculture Means to Me” and uploads the video link to enter.  Winners are determined by online voting.  The video that receives the most online votes wins that high school student a scholarship, and their 4-H or FFA Chapter will also receive a donation.

    • First Place Student: $2,500 & their chapter receives $1,500
    • Second Place Student: $1,500 & their chapter receives $1,000
    • Third Place Student: $1,000 & their chapter receives $500
    • Corporate Selection: $1,000 & their chapter receives $500 (This is a new category this year. There will be a panel of judges to identify a video based on effectiveness of message and quality of video.)

Students can begin creating their video at any time, but they will not be able to upload or start receiving votes until February 1, 2018.  The contest ends on Ag Day, March 20, 2018. Stay tuned for a link to upload videos.

Capital Farm Credit Community Outreach Grant Program

In 2018, Capital Farm Credit is unveiling a brand new Community Outreach Grant Program.  The program is designed to provide grants to Texas FFA chapters and 4-H clubs that have developed a project to better their community. The grant will range from $500-$1000; dependent on the proposed budget of the chapter. Funds will be awarded to assist club and chapter members in bringing positive change by establishing projects that make local communities better places to live.  Each proposal will be reviewed and scored by a grant review team.

The applications for Community Outreach Grants are available here, and the deadline for applications is March 1, 2018. All applications should be emailed to grants@capitalfarmcredit.com.   FFA Chapters or 4-H Clubs will be notified no later than April 1 if they’ve been awarded a grant.

2018 Nueces County Jr. Livestock Show Livestock Judging Contest

The 2018 Nueces County Jr. Livestock Show Livestock Judging Contest will be held on January 19. On-site registration is from 3:00 – 3:45 pm and the contest begins at 4:00 pm. 2018 District 11 Spring Spectacular

District 11 4-H is pleased to announce our 2018 Spring Spectacular! Contests included are Fashion Show, Fashion Storyboard, Duds to Dazzle, Educational Presentations, Public Speaking, Share-the Fun, Quiz Bowls (Beef, Horse & Nutrition), Consumer Decision Making, Leaders 4 Life Skill-A-Thon, Ag Product ID and Discover Scientific Method Research Poster Contest. This event will be held on April 6-7, 2018 at the Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex in Victoria, Texas. Details and entry forms can be found on the event website: https://d114-h.tamu.edu/district-11-4-h-spring-spectacular/. Please contact your County Extension Office for information regarding their county level qualifying contests.

The cost to register includes a one time contest management fee of $15 per individual (includes either a t-shirt or souvenir) and a $5 registration fee per contest. Registration opens on February 15, 2018 and must be completed on 4-H Connect. Deadline to register is March 16, 2018 with late registration being March 17-30 for an additional $25.

2018 Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Training

District 11 4-H is proud to host a Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Training on December 7, 2017 at 6:30 pm at https://agrilife-tamu.webex.com/meet/Meredith.Miller.

The training will cover the 2018 application, the application process, and major changes for 2018.

The Texas 4-H opportunity scholarship is open to graduating seniors, however, its never to early to start planning and familiarizing yourself with the process!
